Yucca CouncilResourcesNew Registration Requirements

At a recent National Meeting, the Boy Scouts of America announced some changes that are being implemented with youth and adult member registrations.  These changes and their effective dates are as follows:

  1. Effective December 1 of 2017, registration fees will increase to $33 annually.  This will impact all of the December charter renewals in the Yucca Council and any new youth or adults that register after December 1, 2017.
  2. Effective December 1 of 2017, enhancements are being made to online rechartering.  The experience will be improved and make it easier by allowing for electronic authorization and online payments.
  3. Youth Protection Training Requirement Changes.
    1. Effective immediately, Youth Protection Training is required for all leaders at time of registration.  Paper applications from new leaders must be accompanied by a YPT training completion certificate, which must be filed with the application.  Because completion of YPT is now required for all leaders at the time of registration, unit leaders must obtain copies of the completion certificates from leaders who register online before approving their application.
    2. Effective immediately, council registrars will no longer be able to override the registration system to register any leader whose YPT is not current.  Adult applications received at the Yucca Council Service Center without YPT will be returned to the unit.
    3. Revised paper applications, will include the changes to YPT requirements and a single approval signature for adult leaders (from the Institution Head or Charter Organization Representative).  Changes have been made to the criminal background check disclosure in order to comply with applicable laws.  New adult applications will be available by December 1, 2017.
  4. Effective for the 2018 BSA Summer Camp Season, any adult accompanying a Boy Scout Troop to a resident camp or other Scouting Activity and particiapating for 3 nights or more, must be registered as a leader, including completion of a criminal background check and YPT, even if they are a parent of a youth on the trip.
